Zhuhai City

Zhuhai is a city in Guangdong province, China. By land, Zhuhai is connected to the former Portuguese colony Macau to the south, while former British colony Hong Kong lies across the sea to the east. Zhuhai is situated in the southwest of the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province. It faces Hong Kong on the east across the Lingding Ocean, Macau on the south, Xinhui and Taishan on the west, and Zhongshan on the north. It is 150 kilometers away from Guangzhou. Zhuhai has jurisdiction over Xiangzhou District and Doumen County. Its total land area reaches 1,300 square kilometers.

Zhuhai means Pearl Sea; this is where the Pearl River flows into the South Sea.

Climate

The weather in Zhuhai is sub-tropical. Temperature varies between 10C/50F degrees in winter to a hot and humid 35C/95F degrees in summer . Typhoons are also a possibility in summer. The best times to visit are spring and fall.

Tourism

The attractive environment and natural landscapes bolster Zhuhai's reputation as a garden city and a model city of best living environment. In 2002, the city attracted 1.3 million international tourists and 3.64 million domestic tourists. Following Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Zhuhai is the third city in Guangdong province earning the largest foreign exchange from international tourism, which amounted to US$0.5 billion in 2002.

Realizing the substantial benefits brought by tourism, the local government is constantly improving the existing tourist spots and exploring new tourist resources. The local government is developing new tourist spots such as Hengqin, Dong'ao, Hebao, Qi'ao and Yeli.
