Wanshan Ocean Development Testing Zone

In 1998,the People's Government of Guangdong province approved the establishment of the Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone. This is the first local marine comprehensive development experimental zone in the province. In the Zone, there are 146 bays of different sizes, suitable for building deep-water docks and large transit warehouses. At present, there are 20 docks of various sizes, and 39 berths. To meet the demand of local economic development, the State Council approved the upgrading of the rank of Wanshan Port on April 29,2003.The Zone is rich in marine resources. Cobia and purple sea urchin raised here are exported to Japan, the US and European countries. At the same time, the island scenery itself is a fine tourism resource.

With 76 islands and islets of various sizes and established on September 10, 1998 with approval of Guangdong Provincial Government, Wanshan Ocean Development Testing Zone is the first ocean development testing zone in our country. It has a land area of 80 square kilometers and a sea area of 3,200 square kilometers, and its center region is the international anchor location of the estuary of the Pearl River and quite a few international water courses run through this region. It develops such pillar industries as comprehensive fishery, tourism and warehousing. It also develops such industries as the deep processing of ocean products, ocean transportation and supplies. The Cargo and Passenger Port at Wanshan Harbor is a Grade A port of the nation.
