Throughout this city, supermarkets are devouring market share from traditional department stores. The shopping mall at the former International Trade & Exhibition Center site is a quasi-American style mall.
Four shopping areas in the city each have their own market niche. The Jingshan Road shopping area in Jida is relatively newer than the others. Jingshan Honest Shopping Street is the backbone of the area. Along the street are the Zhuhai General Merchandise Fair, Duty-Free Emporium, Guomao Shopping Center, C-Mall, Yinlong Commercial Building and People's Resources Supermarket. They create a modern-style shopping environment combining ecology, tourism, leisure attractions and shopping in a modern landscape.
The Yingbin South Road area takes the Gongbei Port Square as its center. Along the road are the Vanguard Supermarket, the Port Underground Shopping Center, Yingbin Plaza and other commercial facilities in a 24-hour shopping environment.
The Fenghuang Road shopping area is the old downtown. Small roadside stores and brand boutiques highlight its character. The Xiangzhou Department Store and Jusco Supermarket are the giants of the area. According to a municipal urban renovation plan, this area will be thoroughly renovated.
Lianhua Road is the backbone of a shopping area crossed by Yuehai and Qiaoguang roads. The area is full of small stores for garments, ornaments and daily-use items.
